Hooks for live bait?

Discussion in 'Catfish Discussion' started by Rooster, Aug 30, 2005.

  1. I just got done snelling 30 circle hooks in anticipation of fishing the Ohio tomorrow after work. Anyone else excited about the good fishing this rain should bring? LOL

If you snell your hooks, or just use leaders, you owe it to yourself to try one of these:

Only a few bucks, and saves a lot of time on the water!

Anyway, I’ve had a fairly good hook-up percentage with circle hooks in the past, but have had a bad run (pun intended) with live bait lately. I missed a screaming run on a large live (at least it was alive when I put it on the hook) skipjack last weekend. I will still be using circles with cut bait, but I’ve decided to change hooks for live bait. Any suggestions on what style of hooks I should try for BIG live bait? Thanks!
