Through the years, I have always cut the line on gut hooked fish and have been told that the hook will ultimately fall out and the fish will be fine. This may be true but I just watched a video showing what may be a better alternative. I just saw this so I can't say that it works. Thought I would share with my fellow anglers

This does work great. We usually use hemostats for hook removal as they are not as bulky and allow for that type of hook removal on smaller fish such as crappie and bluegill as well. With the smaller fish, it is more difficult to see what you are doing, but it has saved a lot of fish and a lot of money for hooks over the years....and the pain of retying every other fish, especially with panfish that like to swallow the hook.
