Hard steering

Discussion in 'Boats and Motors' started by HAIR JIG, Mar 25, 2005.

  1. My new boat steers real hard.
Is it possible to have steering cables to long I'm saying 1or 2 ft. to long. Would this make my steering hard. I have double cables.

Not sure but your cables may have to be re adjusted, my steering is hard to turn on my boat but thats because it dosent have power steering. Someone else might have a better suggestion.

  3. Is it a brand new boat? My dad's Striper when he first got it the steering was a little tight. He says he prefers it that way though.

try turning the motor left/right by hand. the motor swivel may need grease.cables too.freezing temps makes grease hard. is it NEW.talk to your dealer if it is not an easy fix. it should not be HARD and should not be too easy either.there is also a tension screw in the motor swivel area that can be adjusted . loose or tight.

    Orlando Set The Hook!

Check under the steering coloum. On some there is a adjuster knob that makes tension turning the wheel. Just a thought
