ground wire

Discussion in 'Boats and Motors' started by Warpath, Mar 27, 2005.

  1. I need to replace the ground wire on my trolling motor batteries. The old one is pretty hard to tell what gauge it is. What is the minimum gauge wire you guys would use for this application. Thanks!

  2. If you have electric, depending on the thrust you could need as high as 6 gauge. I have a 50# bow mount run to the back of the boat.

When I did my batteries I read that 6 qauge was recommended. Go to Walmart by the batteries. Get a 6 gauge lawn and garden wire. I got them for $2.22 a piece. Can't beat that price.

  4. Yep, I believe the wire from the factory in my my boat was 8 guage. I replaced it with 6 just to be safe.
