Well, I hit the banks of the Great Miami River at Dravo Park yesterday, and despite the beautiful weather, it was a fishless outing. I had a couple of good runs but nothing to show for that bait that was mauled. I had some lively goldfish and some chubs, all in the 6-8 inch range. The first run came on a chub head, and came back in with a V-shaped chunk missing from it. The second run came on a live 6" goldfish, and it was a long screamer peeling off the clicker. It came back in having been scalped. The third run came on that same goldfish, but came back in missing its head. Another of our members was also there fishing and caught a small soft-shelled backstroker on shrimp. However, at the time I didn't know this person was a member until we started packing up and started talking. Lazzyfishingman (aka Make7upyours from a previous site) was the turtle master yesterday. I was just feeding them. Anyways, Jason, it was a pleasure meeting you, and hopefully we can fish together again in the future and actually catch some fish. One more thing, for those who haven't been to Dravo Park in a while, boy has it changed. The gravel company has quit dredging that stretch of the river and the banks are beginning to return to a more natural appearance, as well as some structure beginning to form around the old RR bridge pillars. All in all, I enjoyed my time on the bank - despite the fact that I do miss being able to fish from my boat.
