I have a 1989 evinrude 48 spl. In an earlier topic I asked about a rough idle. I ran sea foam through it and it seems to run better. I asked the guy I got the boat and motor from and come to find out he was running 40:1 or 50:1 mix. I read in a few forums the manufacturer recommends 100:1. I would like any input as to what I should be running in this motor. Thanks guys and all replies are much appreciated.

johnrude is 100% right on this one. 50 to 1, i think some of the very old motors use to run alittle more oil in them. but nothing as new as your motor. and i,ve been told by alot of outboard mech,s have told me even with the old motors you only need 50 to 1 because the oil you get now is so much better than what you got way back when. but its not even good enough to try and run 100 to 1. you would smoke your motor if you run it without enough oil.

Yamaha 2 stroke motors run at 100:1 ratio. But I've never seen that with any other manufacturers.
