FYI
Best friend took his 14' Alumacraft with 9.9 out to check motor carb repair.
Put in at old marina saltfork, headed back towards ranger station and about in front of the main beach area - slammed a half floating chunk of wood.

He didn't have the motor kicker lever moved to allow the motor to tilt up and the motor
slammed the wood and popped clear up off the transom, down in water only held by the electric start cables. He was able to shut down and drag into the boat. Seems and damn lucky no damage. Boy's that makes a bad day. With all the rain there's still crap floating out there !!

We always had safety chains on our outboards when we mounted them on the rentals in Canada.

Did he need a tow to get back in or did he paddle?

Luckily he did have a trolling motor 18lb thrust and old battery. That got him back to the launch but barely. I looked at the transom and lower unit with him. Gosh it looks like there okay. If he'd had that motor screwed down tighter it could be a whole different ending.
