Might have to turn down the "noise/clutter" ASP factor. I leave mine off. Also I'm assuming you run on manual vs. the little fishy symbols, if not, set it to fish archs. Then it may be the angle of the transducer. Try moving it up or back one click (with the motor OFF- not just in neutral) when on the water.
Also the surface clutter might be set too high, again, I leave it off too.

1.) Set to manual fish archs
    2.) Turn off surface clutter
3.)Turn off "Noise" might be called "interferance" on your unit.
4.) Adjust sensitivity up to where the screen begins to get a little grainy
5.) If still no archs, adjust transducer angle
6.) Set ping speed all the way up. :)

thanx guys , iwill keep messing with it and try your suggestions. i never had a problem seeing the eyes. saw baitfish and arches in 18 ft of water last week. but those bottom fish have always been tough to spot , thats why i upgraded to the 480 this year.
