Hey, I was wondering if anyone knows if any of the local stereams are still fishable, or will be this weekend? I was thinking about giving mad river a try, or clear fork (I think that's the name of our other trout stream?) or anywhere else I might find luck on a fly rod.

But, then again, it's cold as hell out there :(

  2. Open water on the Mad. Not sure how well the fish will cooperate.

Today (22nd) and tomorrow are probably your good days. Temps are supposed to plummet again this weekend. If you hit the Mad think small, like #18 or smaller, and have that chapstick handy. I may try to hit it tomorrow, and may go on Sunday out of desperation, even though I can't high stick to save my life.

Cut out of work early on Friday and hit the Mad. Despite the snowmelt, the river still appears to be dropping, and is gin clear. Spooked one LARGE fish, and saw a few small ones hiding in trees. No hook ups. Saw very few midges coming off the water. Nymphing skills still very poor....
