Finally!!!

Discussion in 'Steelhead Talk' started by jojopro, Oct 22, 2008.

  1. I finally landed my first steelie of the season...and it only took me 7 trips out to do it!:p In my first 5 times out this season on the Rocky or the Chagrin I never even hooked into one :S, (I'm blaming that all on the sub-par conditions and me not starting early enough in the day though...definitely not because of my angling skills ;)). Well yesterday I finally landed a 26" hen out of the Chagrin. I got her on a 4" fluke (alewive colored) drifted beneath a float. I hooked the fish in the middle of about a 4' deep run with moderate current. I also hooked into but lost a fish of the same size the evening before on a chartreuse zonker in the same spot. On both days I had seen some steelies rolling the surface in and around that run apparently chasing minnows. On both Monday and Tuesday the Chagrin was running gin clear and I saw and heard of only few fish being caught. Minnow mimicking presentations seemed to be most effective.
