As a new owner of an old fiberglass boat, I was wondering if there was something I could coat the hull with that will help prevent cracking and seal up small cracks. The boat has no leaks at the moment but I figure prevention is the key.

Describe these small cracks if you will. A picture will be better.

Gel Coat can get little spider-web like cracks in it that is only superficial. There are some top-side paints that will cover them up if you are up for it.

Structural cracks are a different story.

Most of what I see is the spiderweb type cracking in the coat. There are a couple of scratches that are a bit deeper.

The deeper scratches will have to be filled. I have the spider cracks too and just decided to live with it. Those can be painted.

There are some really good guys at http://forums.iboats.com/forumdisplay.php?f=22

Somebody there will be more knowledgeable about which product to choose and proper application. Some of the new paints look better than the original gel coat!
