experienced troutsman's expertise needed inside (pics)

  1. my buddy takes me on his annual trip to the smoky mountains in NC for trout fishing. typically we land a handful of nice 10 to 14 inch trout for the day. but on this particular day, he nailed this beast. it was 3x the size of the rest and...look at that mouth! we just figured he nailed the las of the prehistoric trout on earth :p

    but can anyone tell me what we're dealing with? was it just a much older fish?

    (sorry for the blood & guts, we cleaned 'em at the river before heading home for pics)


  2. Looks like an absolute monster brook trout. The rest of the ones you have appear to be rainbows. They sometimes stock some of the older brood fish when they get past their prime and don't put out the eggs like they once did. You should have that one mounted as the average brookie is smaller than the 'bows you have.
