Evinrude 9.9 hidden sparkplug

Discussion in 'Boats and Motors' started by Star1pup, Aug 22, 2005.

  1. I was going to change the plug in my 2001 Evinrude 9.9 4-stroke until I saw where the bottom plug was located. Unbelievable! I don't know how it could be changed without a special wrench. Anyone out there ever solve this problem? There is no way it could be changed while on the water.

Also the motor loses rpm after about 45 minutes of trolling. I like to be able to troll at about 2+ mph at 1,100 rpm, but it drops to 900 rpm or less and trolling speed is closer to 1 mph. My rig has a Yamaha throttle and it has notches that it drops into so I can't just goose it a tad. The first notch is slow and the second goes about 3mph or more. I wonder if I can disassemble the throttle and get rid of the notches?

would there be an idle adjustment screw there to set at a faster idle on the carb.

  3. I'm sure there is. A friend thought I might just adjust the throttle linkage. Of course, both of those suggestions would change the slowest idle speed.
