I won't eat them unless I'm starving. Same with the Cuyahoga, Black, Maumee, etc.

My wife's uncle grew up on the Ohio River, and still lives there. He was an avid sportsman, now in his 80s.

He stopped eating fish from the Ohio River many decades ago. There's a whole town down there that AEP had to buy because of multiple kinds of contamination. The town was Cheshire, it was down-river from Middleport/Pomeroy on the Ohio side.

"My step father ate fish out of the Ohio all his life. It finally got him, he died last year he was 101."

I've been eating OR fish since the 80's,,,,
& THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH ME!!! ;>) ( do NOT ask my wife!)

Seriously,,,,, right now, I won't 'catch n eat em' this year,,, gonna wait till it flushes for a while.
Maybe, Hopefully, Brockovich will keep an eye on the hazardous earth removal & we won't have to worry TOO much about the ground seepage, later on.???

That's why I mentioned fishing in Pa OR waters. Above Litle Beaver. There, you only have to worry about 100 years of steel mill sediments,,,, About the same as fishing around the old Erie garbage dumps! (& that's when the fish don't move)

Somewhere, years ago, I read a report on air quality & the amount of hazardous (PPMs) chemicals inhaled while sitting at a city redlight with your windows down.
WAY more scary that anything you'll eat, coming out of our Rivers & waters.
Food For Thought.

BTW,,,, I ate a huge plate full of Erie walleye 'BELLIE MEAT' yesterday.
& DAMNnnnn was it good!
lmbo,,,,, ;>)
My psychiatrist said that constantly WORRYING about it, is way worse than just going ahead & getting it done.

What are the advisories for Walleye, Sauger, Crappie, and Bass from the Ohio River??
Is it safe to eat walleye from the Ohio River?

While you can eat fish from the Ohio River, the ORFA and Ohio EPA both recommend you don't do it more than once a month for most species.

Some of us in the South Eastern part of the state don't have many options. We fight the muddy water too. Hard rains mess it up also.
Yup I get ya man! 👍 The link I posted is a recent report and basically just says limit consumption. Pretty unbiased report actually!

Lived on the river for the majority of my life. Nothing but catch and release for me, but to each their own

??????
So how many CITIES use the O River for THEIR drinking water source? (& youns are worried about the fish)
But that's ok,,, 'cause you'll only drink store bought water, right?
How'bout The ice in your mix drink, or the ice in your cooler,,,,,,,, it only came from a bottled, purified & regulated source, right? On & On & ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ;>)

Hec,,,, I think everyone knows that you shouldn't put a PLASTIC container of drinking water out in the sun, & let it get warm!???
The NASTY STUFF will leach out of the plastic & into the water!! You'll be drinking those same chemicals!
& that PLASTIC saran wrap,, covering your foods in a microwave! Hah,, just Another way to go!

So that 'plastic crap' at the spill,,,,, How many PPMs will EVERYONE eventually ingest?
Will it be More than what's in those (Styrofoam) HOT coffee-cup, stops,,, on a daily basis? (OMG, that's right! another way to go)

Like I said, many many times, years ago,,,,
The FEDS warned us about SMOKING, NICOTINE, & the millions of attributed CANCERS, way back in the 60s-70s? BUT, instead of forcing a total 100% ban, they gave the Southern farmers "TIME TO SWITCH OVER,,, to PLANT DIFERENT CROPS. "
Geeee,, THAT never happened huh $$?.
Then, they warned us about PLASTICS,,,, AFTER they 'made' everything & everybody switch over from paper products! (another lol,, to save all of the (renewable) forests that are now burning up! or just being chopped up & dropped along our freeways! omg,, :<(

And now,,, isn't it a total hoot how OUR largest pharmaceutical companies HAD to use China's labs???
(lol, good thing US taxpayers can afford all of that antidote!?
ANYWAY,,,,
Ain't it funny,,,, how just about everything going WRONG in this country, one way or another, falls back on a governmental decision? $$$$$$$$$
Corruption,,,,, THE root, of all of our pimples.

HEY,,,, trying hard not the change the topic,,, but did you guys see HOW MANY AMERICANS HAVE DISAPPEARED, JUST THIS YEAR, IN MEXICO?
Oooops,, sorry. need to put this one in the 'LOUNGE'.

We all want clean water for bathing and drinking. Most people don't realize how many chemicals from plants along the river, how many septic tanks dump into the Ohio, trash that's tossed in, tires ,exhaust from boats dead animal carcasses etc. I live by the Ohio I may swim in it but I'm not drinking it. I'm sure Cincinnati filters it but only God knows what's truly in it. Lead doesn't leave the body and is classified as a carcinogen. Bottom feeders contain lead and mercury, hard metals. If you want to take a chance on shortening your life. Then that's your choice.

I live close to the Ohio River and have never eaten any fish from it, but I used to eat fish from the little miami river only because it used to be the 7th cleanest river in the US, now it's the 13th cleanest, but after the derailment, I'm not sure if i want to risk it. It runs out of Columbus to the Ohio and they use to test the water on a monthly basis. I live about 10 minutes from East Fork Lake and it seems like every year they post signs saying not to eat the fish because of some bacteria issues with the water, even Cowand Lake has the signs posted. If I want a good fish dinner I have a couple of private ponds that I can fish and catch a few crappie, bass, cat fish and blue guill out of. It's a shame that all our tributaries are getting polluted from all these derailments and companies dumping in our waters.
