Anybody here want to admit to eating fish out of the river? I do. If you also do, does the East Palestine train derailment have any bearing on your decision to eat them now. I am currently holding off until we learn more. Curious of what you guys are thinking on this subject.

I believe the water shed went south to the Ohio river. doubt if the under ground water table goes to Erie.

The OP is asking about eating fish out of the Ohio River not Lake Erie. A valid question about the river since the derailment!

I might be wrong, but I thought most contamination of meat comes from bioaccumulation. I don't know which chemicals were released and if they have crazy absorption thru the skin or gills of fish.
I bet there is more of a hazard from getting the actual river water on/in you than from eating the fish.

I do, don't believe this derailment will effect the fish at all. When was the last time you saw a "Don't eat fish" notice for eye's, sauger, bass etc for the river....How about Erie????

ain,t just fish. everything we eat is full of nasty stuff added to the feed and factory added. read the back of a can of pop.
I have never eaten anything out of the Ohio or its tributaries. Beaver Creek had melamine in it for years and years. You weren’t even supposed to wade in the creek. Melamine settles in the mud and fat of fish and animals and isn’t able to be removed by the body, if I remember right. When the mud gets stirred up it gets it moving again. There’s a stream outside of Salem that has signs posted about this contamination.
I would say that lots of people eat fish from the Ohio and don’t have any issues but, I’m not and haven’t been interested in eating them. You’ll probably be fine and if not then you will be missed. 😆

I don't eat the fish out of the OHR, but I don't see it affecting crappie, white bass or bluegills as far south as Cincinnati where I live. The dilution of the chemicals would be so miniscule by the time it reaches here to cause an issue. It wouldn't gross me out to eat those fish from the OHR, but man I dunno about catfish from the OHR. That's where I personally draw the line mostly because of pcbs and other heavy metal pollutants.

I ate a fish out of the Ohio in 1995 and grew another arm that I had to have amputated. It had whiskers like a catfish...
Shoulda kept it, you can use three rods now....

What are the advisories for Walleye, Sauger, Crappie, and Bass from the Ohio River??

I can't speak of the Ohio river because I do not fish it but I'm sure that information is available on the odnr website.
