Easy question

Discussion in 'Boats and Motors' started by bigfishtommy, Nov 11, 2004.

  1. I am looking for a small boat recently and have an easy question for you veteran boat owners. What is the difference between "lbs thrust" and horsepower?

    Thanks.

pounds thrust is the ways they measure trolling motors and horse power is on gas. i have never seen a comparison chart but my 55lber pushes my boat dang near as fast as my 9.8 on calm water but not worth a darn in wind

    BigfishTommy,
I have no idea what the factor is but I do know there has to be a conversion factor. Although this is a completely different animal operating in different medias the output of a jet/rocket engine is measured in thrust.
The conversion factor is (2.4) meaning 2.4 lbs of thrust equals 1 hp.
