Drilling spring steel

Discussion in 'Boats and Motors' started by sstaz, May 4, 2008.

  1. Anyone know what kind of drill bit will go through spring steel. My recoil spring broke on my old '48 johnson 5hp kicker. Luckily it broke only 3 inches from the end. Now I need to drill a hole so I can rivet the steel loop back on that holds it to the cover

    Try a cobalt drill bit

  3. A burring tool will do it ...I would use a double diamond cut or what ever you have

  4. Thank you for the suggestions. I decided to bite the bullet and bought a 1/8 inch carbide bit and as they say in New York... it went through it like budda:p
