Two bags, one off the front and one off the back, help you drift flatter so you're not drifting nose or tail first - but you could probably get by with one on a smaller rig.

And by the way, another satisfied customer - they do great on my 19-1/2' Sea Nymph, had them for about 5 years now.

If you are going to use them to troll, get two! One for each side. I couldn't imagine trolling with just one. Steering would be a nightmare. With two steering is a breeze. I don't think you can use bags that are two big. Better to be bigger than smaller. I got 18'' bags and wish I had gotten the 24"'s. My boat is not big, but has a lot of power. Slowest speed is 1.8-2.0, if I ever get into the night bite, or were to start trolling early in the year, I would definitely have to go with bigger bags. But for 90% of the year they work great.
