Ice Team postpones the North American Ice Fishing Championship due to poor ice conditions

Plymouth, MN – December 8, 2004: For the first time in its history, Ice Team will postpone and reschedule a tournament on the count of questionable ice. And this first of its kind occurrence is affecting the big dance, the 2004 North American Ice Fishing Championship, originally scheduled for December 18-19, 2004 on Lake Mary in Alexandria, Minnesota.

Frustratingly warm weather has delayed the start of ice fishing nationwide, West Central Minnesota included. On the day the decision was made to postpone the contest – Tuesday, December 7 – an Ice Team reconnaissance group, including Dave Genz, deemed the ice unsafe for a tournament of this magnitude. The 10 day forecast wasn’t guaranteeing anything, either.

Safety is job one. With that in mind, Ice Team management selected an alternate date, between 2005 qualifying events, and deep into winter when suitable ice is assured.

Remark your calendar for February 26-27, 2005. The public is welcome to observe the Saturday and Sunday competition. Additionally, Ice Team is hosting a FREE public ice fishing show on Thursday, February 24th (6pm to 9pm) and Kids’ Ice Fishing Clinic on Saturday, February 26th (8am to 10am).
