Daytona Beach

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by CHOPIQ, Jun 5, 2007.

  1. I was one of the lucky ones to get cheap flights to Daytona Beach. Just a few questions, never been there but does anyone know of a nice hotel or condo for rent near New Smyrna Beach (about 10 miles south of Daytona). Also since we are flying I won't have any fishing poles any sugesstions on where to fish down there, ie charter or piers.

    Hey John!!

  3. Best place we have stayed in Daytona is named Aku Tiki Best Western. It is on the main drag, on the southern side away from the kids and the partiers. The rates are hard to beat, the pool is big and heated, and they really treat you well for a smaller place.

I highly suggest eating at least one time at Aunt Catfishes. It is the best in the area. The North turn is also pretty neat to eat at as it is built on the north turn that used to be the track for the races when they were held on the beaches.

For fishing there are two piers, the sunglo and the main street pier. I do not know the current rate, but for around 9 bucks you can get a rigged pole and fish all day. You will have to buy bait, but thats it for expense. You do not need a license on the piers.

There is also a head boat type charter named Critter Fleet that I have been on that loads out of the ponce inlet area, about 5 miles south of daytona by the lighthouse. I think it was around 30 bucks for 5 or 6 hours of still fishing. They run you out to an old shipwreck or likewise and sit over it. Caught a lot of snapper when I went last.

If I can help with anything else let me know, we stay in Daytona for about 3-4 weeks a year.

  4. John- Have not fish Daytona, but go to the race track and take the van ride tour. If noone is testing, they will sometimes take the van ride on the track. You do not have to be a race fan to enjoy it. I hear the canels and ponds around Orlando are great though...
    Have fun!
    Scott.

  5. Newbreed, the bikinis sound good but I still would have liked to go Canada instead.

Olwhitee, thanks for the links. The critterfleet is about a mile from where we will be staying so that sounds like it will work out fine.
Hows the boat been treating you?

kmb- thanks for the tip on the tour bus. Wife and kids probably won't like it but I might still go on it.
