Crappie in Maumee

Discussion in 'Northwest Ohio Fishing Reports' started by Tomahawk, Mar 2, 2005.

  1. When is the best time to start heading out and getting Crappie out of the Maumee?

I used to always go up to Turkey Foot Creek for crappie. Is there some better spots to get them?

    Thanks

  2. Thats a tough one for me, Never really had very good luck for them in the river but would like too. Caught a couple big uns at the dam before in the summer. Maybe someone will help us out here ;)

Try behind any of the oxbow islands in the river. Primarily black crappies

    Zfish More Horsepower Raider!!

Wish I could help on that one too but I've never had any consistant luck when I fish the river.

  5. I Used To Catch Crappies At Turkeyfoot When I Lived In The Bg Area,
I Moved To Gibsonburg So Now I Fish For Them In The Sandusky River
Instead. Man The Size Of The Crappies In The Sandusky And The Consistency Of Size Beats The Maumee Hands Down. I Will Start
Focusing On Crappies Usually From Mid-april Thru Mid-may Depending On Water Level And Temp. My Largest Is A 16.250" Approx
3 Lbs. Nice :) 12- 15" Average On A Good Day With 10-20 Fish For
About 4 Hours Or Less Of Fishing. I Use A Canoe To Get Back Into Some Secluded Creeks And Channels. Hope This Helps.
