Anyone know what caused all the shad to go belly up at Cowan? I was out there this morning for the first time this year and there were literally thousands of dead shad everywhere. Wind had blown hundreds to the dam and made the bank almost unfishable.

I know it doesn't take much to kill shad, but I'm curious because most looked pretty fresh and weather has been fairly stable. My apologies in advance if this topic has already been discussed. I am a fairly infrequent reader and even less frequent poster.

I think it's just the way it is and it happens every year. Last year about this time on th OR, we caught whites and hybrids everywhere we found the dead/dying shad. Pretty awsome actually. Usually a good area to fish.

It sounds completly normal to me. I would fish right in the midst of them and I would be catching fish to. Thanks for the heads up I just may head their tomorow.
