Cowan Report 8/1

Discussion in 'Southwest Ohio Fishing Reports' started by TheKing, Aug 2, 2004.

  1. Fished late afternoon till about 10:00 pm yesterday at Cowan. The lake had flooded out over the docks in the heavy rains from Friday night. But water level was back down, docks were fine and water was well on its way to clearing up.

The queen caught one small crappie and missed a few others. They were biting slow and easy down at 15-18 ft. I was working on a carolina rig tipped with night crawler or minnow. Not even a strike for me.

I have never seen so many bait fish boiling on this lake. Every 10 yards over the entire lake there were schools of 2-3 inch baitfish boiling all afternoon and evening. No exaggeration. Whenever I raised my rod tip and casted, the ones near the boat would all jump like wild. It is no wonder the fish weren't biting there. It looked like a hatchery. The bass in that lake are at the all-you-can-eat buffet.
