I turned around on my way to work today with that funny feeling that today was the day for fast crappie action. And it turned out to be my lucky day.
Clear water and calm winds today made for a fantastic day. One of the best I have had in 37 years of fishing Cowan.
The bite was hot in close on the wood and also off shore in 16 FOW under the bobber at 12 ft down. Must have caught close to 200 crappies. Lots of dinks, one Fish Ohio, and a good dozen in the 10-12 inch range. A few short LM and a keeper white bass, too. Found a few gills, but they must have been run out by the crappies. Both minnows and wax worms worked...wax worms seemed to get the bigger fish.
This weekend should be good if the weather holds for a few more days.
