Just got back from a 2 day picnic,,, catching perch out of Conny!! THANKS 'CHEEZMAN',,, FOR TAKING ME ALONG!
Limits both days,,, 6 man in 8 hrs yesterday,,,
Today, 2 man limit in 3 hrs & much NICER fish.
EVERYBODY AROUND US GOT LIMITS TODAY!! Even the gulls!!
SOLID SCREENS FOR THE FIRST HOUR. Then come-and-go 5' thick gobbs.

Snug harbor was out of emeralds yesterday,,, ya they're the best, but cutting up fatheads from mosquito & or white perch CUT Bait (just cut off the filet with the skin on and it'll stay on the hook for ever.) its just as good if NOT BETTER than emeralds,,, AND FREE!!
Put 1/4" x 1/2" long chunks on a sabiki rig type hook-up or on a #6 or #8 gold or red hook crappie rig style.
The emeralds/ salties were so big that it's best to cut them in 4 or 5 pieces! The perch just love the blood and guts anyway!
We use braid line,,, Power pro, spider wire, etc. and a snap swivel to a 2'-3' piece of 6# or 8# mono.
( your gonna catch a 6# sheephead sooner or later, so heavier is better!)
Put a 3/4oz-1oz bell sinker on the bottom, come up a foot and put a hook,,, another foot another hook.
Keep your leader line short like 2"-3" max, just like the sabiki rigs.
A sabiki rig uses 30# main line and a 20# leader to hook line. It's nice and stiff, doesn't tangle, AND with a stiff pole, you can FEEL the perch swim by! ;)
As soon as we saw the gobbs of perch on the screen,,,
we were jerkin'!
DON'T DROP ANCHOR UNLESS YOU SEE GOBS OF FISH ON THE BOTTOM.
Sometimes we throw out a small marker to help anchor over the spot. (a GPS with Erie map will show you the mounds of zebra mussels that the perch are feeding on.)

THE GULLS will tell the story. If they're fly'n behind a boat, somebody is FEEDING THEM!
If they're sitting,,, WAIT'n,,, so are the fishermen!!
If they are NO WHERE IN SIGHT,,, time to go to a different spot or home!

Alot of boats were coming in with limits before we got out at 8:30!
GULLS WERE FLYING EVERYWHERE!!!
IT WAS A GREAT 2 DAYS! :D
Conny; 6 mile 63' N-NNE
Ash; 2-3 mile NW 47'

TONS MORE PERCH AT Conny! Not much bait,,, call first, they've been running out of emeralds at 7:AM!!
Get your bait the day before,,, don't matter if it's DEAD!

Need more info,,,give me a PM. I've got the numbers if you want them.
Let me know how you do. HECK! Take me along!!! :D

We're gonna head up. We usually get there around 6 for Bait. Think that'll be early enough?
Oh,,, flip-a-coin!
Full moon last week end & 1'-3'ers the last cupla days.
2' or LESS,,, anything can happen!
They had 1 full tank wednesday at 3am and GONE at 7. I think 'She Said' 150 dock payers wed.
Yesterday, I'd say 1/2 that, and LOTS OF EMERALDS. Go figure
TRUST ME on this one,,, The cut-bait worked just as good if not BETTER!!
If you can't get emeralds,,, don't fret,,, use the $$$ for a 30-PACK!! :D

(Cheezman & cut-bait,,, I think That's all he used yesterday,,,)

Yep, only used about 3 minnows until I caught a small perch to cut up for cut bait.
Make sure you leave the skin on, its what holds it on the hook so good. The strips I cut were about 1/2 in wide and about 1 1/2 in long.
I only used 3 strips the whole time...the fish don't seem to care if its fresh or not !!!
They were hammering it at times and if you don't need to re-bait, you get back down on 'em faster !!!!
Have fun out there... be back next Mon Tues

From the Ohio DNR website.

"Fish caught by legal angling methods (such as bluegills caught by hook and line) may be used for bait."
