I have a 1992 Evinrude 9.9 that runs like a champ 100% of the time except that it's very hard to start cold. If I give it the very smallest shot of starting fluid it will start immediately with a half-hearted pull of the cord and be perfect the rest of the day. I've tried all the usual things, fresh gas, new plugs, the 5 minute Sea Foam treatment to clean out any buildup, etc. but nothing has helped. You guys have any other suggestions?

Dumb question probably, but, I take it the choke won't get it going either? I don't know if yours has an idle adjustment either for a "richer or leaner" fuel air mix while idling that may help at all. The adjustment probably has nothing to do with starting though if you have it.

#1 If you are using straight starting fluid; don't. Use a starting fluid with some oil premixed. You can usually find a 3 in 1 oil with some oil in it.
#2 Sounds like the carb just needs a good cleaning.
