This is my boss's famous recipe. He is one of the founders of the City Barbecue chain in Columbus.

    Ingredients:

    1 cup Coca Cola
    1 cup ketchup
    1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
    1 tsp. liquid smoke
    1/2 cup A-1 Steak Sauce
    1/2 tsp. onion powder
    1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper

    Preparation:

Combine all the ingredients in a heavy, nonreactive saucepan (not uncoated aluminum or cast iron). Gradually bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce the heat slightly to obtain a gentle simmer. Simmer the sauce until reduced by a quarter, 6 to 8 minutes. Use right away or transfer to a large jar, cover, cool to room temperature and refrigerate. The sauce will keep for several months.

    Serves: 2 cups

I believe the City Barbeque sauce has a brown sugar and cider vinegar in it. Coca-Cola does very similar to a sugar-vinegar mixture, but it also has other tasty proprietary ingredients in it. The City BBQ sauce, I believe is protected intellectual property. This Coca-Cola sauce is good for using on any type of good Q cooked low and slow, and also use it for Kansas Style wet ribs. The Boss won a grand champion at Kansas City's Royal BBQ cookoff with it.

  8. My wife just commented last evening on some recipe for ribs that called for Coca-Cola. I had never heard of that before and now one day later here it is again. It sounds interesting. I may have to try this one myself sometime.

I made a variation of the coca cola bbq sauce and put it in little coke bottles and gave them away for christmas. They were great. I used fresh minced garlic and onions sauteed in some butter then added the ingredients plus some cayenne pepper and tabasco. Also used Dr. Pepper instead of Coke and that was really good too.
