Chippewa Lake or Portage?

603 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  baitguy
Finally hoping to get my 45 HP 17' Sea Nymph out for shakedown cruise after $900 carb rebuild and synch and etc and deciding on a place for hopefully the upcoming memorial day friday ... Chippewa Lake is the closest to me that allows motors bigger than 10 ... Some sentimental thoughts, many many moons ago I was at the old amusement park and found a length of line w/a hook attached laying on the ground ... gramps helped me find a stick, we put a piece of hot dog on and I was "hooked" ... anyway, is there a public ramp there? It seems I've heard that the fishing there isn't much any more, does anybody have insight of that? Portage is my other reasonable option and not much farther, how much launch traffic is there at the main launch there off I believe Manchester Rd? Thanks guys ...

Get there early if you go to Chippewa, place will be a zoo on memorial weekend. Only 2 ramps, at least there’s more parking for the trucks with boat trailers then just cars parking. Don’t park your car in the trailer parking lot because they will ticket you. Personally, the lake is way to small for unlimited HP. A lot of drinking on the pontoon boats there with little enforcement. All that equals not a great place to fish during summer season.
good luck

Chippewa Lake is full of white perch. I agree that there is no way that lake should be unlimited horse power. Way to small.
thanks guys, your input helped me decide ...
