Children under 10

  1. Do not take children, under 10 years old, boating when the temperature is forcast to be over 90 deg F.

The PFD that they are required to wear can drive their body temperature to an un-healthy level.

  2. I have never heard that precaution before. My boys have the vest style jackets (Type III) just like I do and they are the proper youth sizes so I would think the heat buildup in theirs would be similar to mine. Are they referring to the Type II jackets? I have had my boys out on hotter days but not too often because once it gets to that point it is usually middle of the day and the boys and ready for the swimming instead.:D

There's a simple solution to that. Throw 'em in the water!

I must have been in the water at least 5 times yesterday to cool off.
