Chagrin Today

Discussion in 'Steelhead Talk' started by archman, Nov 11, 2007.

  1. Had my best day on the Chagrin this season. Met up with Cheezemm2 early on, and the fishing was phenomenal until about 8:30. We then went to a different hole and fished with Pymybob who was doing well. Vkutsch came up a little later and hooked a couple. We then went on a scouting mission and found a hole that didn't look that heavily fished. We got a few there. Overall we probably hooked 30 for the day between all of us. To save some embarrassment I won't say how many of those were mine :). Pictures should be coming.

Arch was a stud today, I only counted for five, but I was also only there 1/2 the time..
It was a good day though, and we got out first "yak steel" ever.

  3. In that middle picture is that a steelhead between your legs or are you just happy to be fishing with me? :)

Well, I have no problem saying that Archman was tearing up the fish while I was still learning.....this was only my 3rd-4th time out so I'm still eliminating variables one at a time. Archman will tell you I'm stubborn as hell when it comes to automatically switching techniques...only problem is, he's been doing this for awhile, so I should probably listen:D

    1) Crappie Jigs are ok for steelhead, but probably not recommended...
    2) Probably switching to P-Line Floroclear instead of 6lb mono all around...
    3) Weighted bobbers when expecting heavy downstream wind....

Here's some fish porn of a double steelie hook-up with both Arch and VK successfully landing their fish.

I went 1/3 today, but this fish was gorgeous and will make me go back some more as the winter starts to set in. Still can't go over some of nature's colors...Didn't get a picture but a 6 pt buck came down to the river's edge and stared at me for awhile...looked like a bear wanting fish?

    Both!!:p

Jim, how did you make Joels' fish look so much bigger and make me look so much older???!!

  9. Ended up going 4 for 5. All on jig & maggot. Red/Black and White were the colors that worked for me.

Hardly anyone out today to my surprise. Sorry for splitting so fast on you Jim but when you got to go, you gotta go!. ;) I'm not like "you know who" who can "squat and drop" ANYWHERE!:p

Looks like the yaks worked out for you two. How many did you end up pulling out down river Joel & Vic?

I see you guys are fishing one of my favorite holes again... I plucked a few from there the other day. Watch your picture backgrounds or there will be too many guys around. Carl-see them in our spot!

It was nice to have everyone out there landing some fish...

    1) Bob just disappears after I catch my fish...He saw that the steelhead was a giant so he @*&% his pants!
    2) Arch, that's a nice looking Steelers hat!
    3) VK, I do not do "trick" photography....maybe you're old and grumpy...and you have your fish at an angle to the camera!

If anyone is seriously worried about this background, let me know (pm) and I will photoshop it out...

Don't worry about the background. There's plenty of fish for everyone. Most of us are predominately catch and release anyway. If anyone see's this trout's bigger cousin swimming around, please call me so I can have a visit with him. I chase big trout only....

    Thanks,
