Let's start this thing off boys!

I took a hike last week in the afternoon for a few hours, water temp is 53°… Fished four hours, jig and a jig n bobber... nuthin.
Fast forward to this morning .... showed up around 7:30 AM… Water temp has jumped up to 57°… Nothing on retrieved jig… However the jig n bobber, set 18 inches deep… In about 3 feet of water.
success!

slowed down a little bit around 10 AM… I started casting and retrieving a 1/16 ounce chartreuse jig and I was able to get a couple takers but all the fish on the retrieved jig were only 8" or so. Kept 10 for the pot all were over 10". no hawgs yet.

can't wait to hear everybody's caesars reports on this thread… The annual Crappie campout is going to be a little bit later this year the third week of May… But I will be sure to post all the pics… Good luck, everybody!

Minnows seem to be the ticket when you get a finicky bite or when you get temp changes. I love the jig bite and prefer to use those (cheaper, quicker) but I always have minnows with me for that reason.

ready to go! The others should be arriving in a couple hours, might head out this evening, or just have a few beers and cook dinner.

day #1 went ok...got out on the lake by 7 AM, fishing was slow in the morning but we managed a few keepers before noon... came back to the campsite and had lunch and then took the kiddos out in the afternoon and we did much better. We ended up with about 15 in the cooler. got my two nieces out which was a lot of fun and they had a blast catching a few.

kids had a great time, and honestly, that was the whole point of the years trip...

I fished CC for the second time yesterday, got on the lake around 4 and off around 7:00, 50-65% were short fish but took home 7 over 10" all females that were about ready to squirt. All fish were caught with a Ice blue color jig, 10-12ft down in 12-18ft of water close to structure. I mowed grass all morning and payed for it with a Charlie horse from hell in my left thigh which caused me to loose my Crappie Mojo lol Im sure other boaters thought I was having a heart attack! still a decent day with a 12.5" girl to add to the livewell.

Day 2 was awesome! not a lot of fish, but one hell of a great day… Took all the girls in the campsite out for the morning and they proceeded to fill the live well lwith about 12 fish that were well over 10" ... they had a great time and that's the whole point of this family campout....This started out as just a "guys" camp out… But it's turned into a family event, and I couldn't be happier... love getting people into fishing and catching slabs!

later that night, we had a fish fry and invited some of the campsite neighbors over for dinner ... turns out he was a great guitar player, and we enjoyed some good bluegrass music next to the campfire...

Hope you have a good day on Sunday to cap off the family campout! I’m going to try this afternoon even though Thursday evening was a bit disappointing.

Anything still left on the bank? I've been out of town for a couple of weeks, and hope to get in a little more shallow water bobber action in this weekend. Thinking Cowan & Acton are done....what about CC?

Thanks,
Mark

yes, many of the fish that the girls caught on this trip, we set the minnows 2 to 3 feet deep fishing in timber on the banks. jig n' bobber took the rest, set at 2'.. fishing in 3 to 5 feet of water.
The theme for most of the trips was this… Roll up to a spot, bang out 8 or 10 good ones, then it slowed down considerably...Roll up to the next spot and repeat the process
