Best 9.9 lakes within 1 1/2 hours of canton?

Discussion in 'Northeast Ohio Fishing Reports' started by moe1078, Dec 30, 2004.

  1. Just curious what lake you guys would recommend. I know of a few good ones, Milton, Leesville. Also what are some other big lakes where a 9.9 would get around good.

  2. Atwood(25hp limit), Piedmont

  3. IVE FISHED N OHIO ON ALOT OF DIF LAKES AND WEST BRANCH HAS ONE OF THE BETTER SET UPS BEING ITS HALF NO WAKE AND HAS SOME BIG COVES TO HIDE IN. BERLIN ISNT BAD INTILL BOATING PICKS UP.MOSQUITO IS GREAT BUT ITLL DEPEND ON WIND SPEED AND DIRECTION. 99 WAS ALLOWED ON THE 5 LAKES OF MAHONING BUT THE STATE SOLD THEM !

  4. I would say that Piedmont or Clendening would fit your 9.9 very well. Both very scenic and very good fisheries. Piedmont was a good 'eye population if that's your inclination, but it also has a great large and smallmouth population too. Clendening has a good largemouth population, but I have never nor heard of anyone catching a smallie there. Sure there must be some, but not a great concentration.

I fish Atwood Leesville clendening and tappan with my 9.9. Clendening has a few smallies in it.

  6. Try Dale Walborn....it's a small lake but has some good Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Channel Catfish, Crappie, and Walleye......TightLines!

  7. What are you fishing for?

  8. Bass most of the time.

Piedmont and Clendening are good places! I don't knowaboiut the other directions away from Canton! Like was already said, both places have good pops. of bass. There are some smallies in Clendening. I just don't here about them as much!

This may be a little bit further then 1.5 hours but it may be worth it. Knox Lake right outside Frederickstown is a nice bass lake with a 9.9 restriction. They also have a nice Channel/Carp/Crappies and Gills, as well as the occasional patch of Perch. I believe they have a 18 inch limit on the Bass, so you tend to catch a ton of 12-16 inch bass, but when you catch a big one, it normally is really large. Clean water makes for some tasty channel filets if you are in to catfish.

I am a big fan of Pymatuning.

Don't forget about the Portage Lakes, it is not a 9.9 lake but almost all of the lakes are no wake zones which make it easy for 9.9 boats. Nimisilia is electric only but has a very nice Bass population.

  13. Try Walburn reservoir on stroup rd just south of st rt 224. Have landed a few 5 pounders and one 7.2, lake has alot of structure along with some fast drops to deep water. Also the crappie fishing is good to. along with the recent stockings of saugeye the last 4 years it is a nice lake to fish. They have also installed new boat ramps.
Give it a try and good luck!
