Battery charging

Discussion in 'Boats and Motors' started by DrChip, Aug 22, 2005.

  1. I just rigged up two 12v batteries (+ to +, - to -) to increase the running time for my 12v trolling motor. My question is, when I hook up my portable charger, can I just hook up to one battery and both of them will charge? Or do I have to charge both separately?

I learned about this hookup method on this board, so I'm hoping someone can advise me on this too. Thanks!

Only if both batteries are the exact same capacity and the same age. I would disconnect them. Take it from me, I fried one that way.

Do a search on this topic.

  3. Thanks Timbr. Nope, one is new and higher capacity, one is older. Guess I'll do some disconnecting... ;-(
