bamboo rod reborn

Discussion in 'Fish on the Fly' started by gahannafly, Sep 25, 2017.

  1. I recently picked up a south bend 57-8.5 foot fly rod. Rod and varnish looked good but wraps, guides were rusted. I took it to Old Dutchmen, they put on new guides and cleaned up the ferrules. I added a 6 weight line I have had in the garage, a yard sale reel, and a simple deer hair bug. Landed several bluegill and one large mouth first time out.

I thought it was pretty cool to bring a 60 year old rod back to life doing what it was meant to. Cheers!

I've fished bamboo I time or 2 . I must say I'd like to have one , but I can't justify the $ when I can get a great rod for half the price.....i sure love to have a nice orvis...or other high quality bamboo though
  4. This south bend I have is definelty a blue collar special.
