Anything and everything about Knives & Sharp Stuff...derailing permitted.

I had some stuff I wanted to post about knives on the Kitchen Knives post but if you know me...I'm not a Derailer! (yea, right)
So I decided to start a new post about knives or tomahawks or axes or any sharp piece of steel.
I'll start this off with a knife I found back in around 1973. It was laying in the middle of the road just past some RR tracks. Prolly bounced off a tailgate or bumper.
It was severely "bellied out" by someone using and sharpening that sweet spot. The stacked leather handle was extremely loose. The sheath was dry rotted.
It's a PAL brand knife and it has a RH stamped just about PAL. RH stands for Remington hunting. Very good high carbon steel. Diesel, would you guess maybe a spring steel?
I sent it to a maker back in the early 2000's who drilled out the pommel, cleaned up the tang and reglued every piece of leather. He then regrind the edge to what you see.
One thing I forgot to mention is this knife is from the WWII era.

Made in America is the only way to go, brother.
Many of us old timers on here had fathers (mine included) that had to go a half a world away to fight these jokers, and i'll be damn if i'm going to support them, even to this day.
I seriously make a conscious effort to by American whenever possible.

I met an AEP worker that clears the powerlines today that is a blacksmith. After we talked a bit I found out he was a blacksmith and he started showing me pictures of several knives he makes. Very serious quality he does a lot of Damascus as well. You can tell the guy loved his craft and took great pride in his work. He said funny enough local people when they find out the cost for material and how many hours of time he has are not interested in a knife. He said he has no problem getting his asking point on the Internet to out-of-state customers regularly.

He’s looking for some curly maple and a couple other types of wood for handles. Just so happens I’ve got a lot of real nice wood - guy I bought my place from was a wood worker and left me a load of lumber. Much of it hard to find and wb special order if you could find it. I’m going to do a little barter and get something g nice made.

It sounds like what ever he makes for you will be a heirloom. Good for you.
Diesel is making me a heirloom because it'll never be sold.

I would add the guy makes some unbelievable fillet knives. They of course are his cheapest as he has the least amount of time. They slice paper out of the air and flex/bend fantastic.

ask Diesel to throw in a sample of deer jerky he really knows what he is doing there I speak from experience lol

Well, thanks for the props, guys.
Lazy, i hope this knife meets your expectations. My back is feeling much better today and i'll be back in the shop tomorrow.
F-N-F, you obviously know me, would you care to tell me who you are? You can PM me to let me know.
Thanks again.
Your buddy is absolutely right. You would be hard pressed to believe me if i told you how many hours i have in a knife to get them looking the way i want them to look.

BTW, F-N-F, good solid hard wood is worth a ton of money these days, especially if you have some exotics.
If you ever sell any of it, let me know. 🤙

Posting because of PMs....No I don't have any contact information for the blacksmith and he doesn't have a website. He makes only a handful of knives per year. Depending on how many layers he may have upwards of 30 hours in a Damascus blade knife. I didn't even take his number as he will be back at my house a couple times in the coming weeks both to trim a few trees on the job and pick up a little bit of wood.

Diesel - I've been to your home when I bought a .410 shotgun off you for my teenage son. We talked a bit and you invited me in to take a look at hunting clothes for youth to see if they would fit my son (you were trying to give them away). You gave me a bag of your jerky after we chatted it up. I've had a lot of jerky and made it myself and your jerky sir is top of the line!

Thanks, brother.
If i ever get caught up, i'd be happy to make a knife for you. And it will be a very low price.

That reminds me of a foreman I worked for. He'd say, I don't mind slow and steady progression but I hate going in reverse.
