Getting my new boat shortly, and want to make sure I am not cheap on the antenna

after experiences with the last boat, on the last boat I got an 8' Shakepeare antenna, and that made the difference of night and day.

Any suggestions on the antenna and radio?

I was looking in Cabellas catalog--where I am going to buy it--, and was looking at getting a radio in the $90.00 range, and was looking to get an antenna in the 70$ range, though I see them for $150-160....

Also any reccomendations on the chrome mount vs the stainless mount? Last boat I had a plastic mount, after breaking one of those off, I will go with something metal.

    thanks for the help
  2. I've had a chrome mount for several years, never a problem with it. I would think the only difference would be rust/corrosion resistance in the stainless one. Probably only an issue with salt water.

Get the stainless steel mount, any 8 ft whip will do the job just fine.
