When should I start thinking about Muskies in Alum Creek? Is there a good water temperature to look for? Do you have to be near the dam? Is it worthwhile to fish near the Howard Rd. boat ramps?

I have heard to use hardbaits in the 4 to 6 inch range. Is that right? What about casting Bucktails?

Thanks - this will be my first try at this.

July is good for trolling near the dam. You might troll in front of the beach too. Good luck.

When water temps reach 45 it is time to start thinking muskies. Look for them to move shallow and be close to whatever cover they can find.

Some of the easiest and best trolling lures that i've found are Rapala's Super Shad Rap, also Muskie Mania's Jake and Grandma....and then there's always the notorious "Believer". Depth control is important at Alum Creek, or anywhere for that matter.....you want to try to bump the bottom or cover. I try to stick around 100-200 yards from shore during the early season. GOOD LUCK, but I'm warning you, once you start you will be hooked!
