9.9 Yamaha shifter help needed???

Discussion in 'Boats and Motors' started by exexec, May 4, 2005.

  1. I have a 1990 yamaha four stroke. It was a tiller that is now my kicker. My problem is how to make a makeshift shifter. Inside the engine is 1/4 inch square bar that is the end of the shifter. Any ideas on how to make a bracket or something to be able to shift it w/o taking off the cowling?? I could fabricate something if i could find a tube with 1/4 in square id. Thanks

Just an idea...can you use a 1/4" socket extension??
You could drill and tap the extension and use a set screw to retain it.

  3. That is a great idea, but a friend of mine offered to make one out of stainless for me. He called me tonight and said it was done already! Last part needed and she goes out for the maiden voyage!!!!
