  1. LEWT anglers prepare for third event of 2008

The Western Basin Sportfishing Association (WBSA) and Lake Erie Walleye Trail (LEWT) hold the Evinrude E TEC – Starcraft Marine third event of 2008 on Saturday May 31st at Catawba State Park brought to you by Crown Battery. The anglers for the sold out event will be greeted in the morning with coffee and donuts from West Marine.

Expect to see some big weights come to the scales as the weather is looking good at this point in the week. “In our Saturday night shoot out held this past weekend we saw a 42 lb. basket come in which shows there are still some good fish hanging around the area” commented WBSA President Marc Hudson. He added “If the weather stays nice it might take more then that to pull off the win Saturday.” The teams will depart from Catawba State Park Saturday Morning at 7 AM and have to be back in at 3 PM. The public is encouraged to come to the park for the weigh in.

In the team of the year race there are some familiar names towards the top of the list but at the top is the team of Scott Geitgey and Tim Calvert on the strength of their back to back second place finishes to start out the year. Two time defending champions Travis and David Hartman are in second with Michael Bohm and Bob Kaisk in third. 30 points currently separate the top 5 but it is anyone’s race to win since teams do get to drop one of the first four events and the South Shore Marine Championship is worth extra points as the final event of 2008. “The race for Team of the Year is shaping up to be a nail biter and will come right down to the wire” added LEWT Tournament Director Matt Davis.

As with all 2008 LEWT events the Starcraft contingency money will be available if the winners are fishing out of a Starcraft it will be worth an additional $250 and if that Starcraft was purchased at LEWT sponsors Vics Sports Center or Cranberry Creek Marina the win will be worth a total contingency of $500. Medina Plating will again pay a $250 Big Fish Bonus if the big fish winner has a walleye over 9 lbs.

Here is the remaining schedule for the LEWT and spots remain for Geneva and Lorain.
May 31st – Catawba State Park “Crown Battery LEWT”
