I just got my new old 72 Thompson bow rider back from Cedar Point Yacht Services after doing a full check over, etc.(I had no idea if the boat even ran). The verdict is in, and basically they are saying I either need to rebuild (rings, maybe cyl. walls) or put a new motor in it. It has a 289 Ford 5.0L motor in it. They said 3 cylinders were "dead," but they got it running. Apparantly, it will run fine when the rpm's are up, but will stall out when idling. They said everything else is good (hull, shifts, hydraulic tilt/trim, steering, outdrive, lines, boots, bellows, etc.). So now I am trying to figure out what to do with it. Do you think putting in some thick oil and maybe some Restore will at least let me get around to fishing spots in Sandusky Bay? I have a 9.5 HP on a kicker plate with steering linkage as a backup. I'm not ever going to be pulling skiers or anything. Anybody have an old 5.0 V8 Ford motor they want to get rid of? Anybody want to buy a boat?
