35 hp mercury will not stay running

Discussion in 'Boats and Motors' started by fishb8t, Aug 8, 2005.

  1. the pass 3 times i have been out on the water my motor will die after 5 mins. i can put the motor neutral then take it out of gear.... now the motor will start fine. i will sit with the motor running thinking it just needs to get warm. but right when i put the motor in gear, it will die. some times when i put the motor in gear then slam it all the way forward it will go 3-5 mph. then when i get any close to neutral, the motor will die.

some of the things i have looked for or changes.
i can not see or smell any gas...as if my gas lines have a leak.
    my gas ball says hard.
    new plugs.
    new fuel fillter.
    my tank is vented.

    any advice would be appreciated.

try adjusting the carb, may not be getting enough gas near idle speed. i am always screwing with the one on the 9.9 4 stroke

  3. Don't mess with the carb settings. It can be a pain to get them right without the manual. It sounds as if your carb(s) need a good cleaning.

check your fuel filter and gas line for obstructions.
