    2008 NEOCATS Iron-Man Classic


    49 teams qualified for the 2008 NEOCATS Iron-Man Classic, but only 19 showed up to compete in what we expected to be a grueling, tiring test of ability. The first part of the tournament started at 8:00am Saturday morning and ended at 4:00pm with the first weigh-in. The Night part of the tournament began at 8:00pm and ended with the second weigh-in at 8:am Sunday morning.

    Battling back from more than 12 pounds out of the lead was the team of Skip Martin of Copley and Kevin Jones of Cleveland to add 26 pounds 12 ounces to their daytime total for a 12 fish total of 40 pounds 14 ounces to take home the NEOCATS Classic two years in a row. Skip and Kevin earned $730.00.

    The team of Scot Riley and Jim Lorincz of Fairview Park. Scott and Jim finished the day session with only 2 fish and in 13th place, but adding 6 fish during the night session pushed them into Second place with a total of 36 pounds 4 ounces. Their efforts earned them $330.00

    Ron Brown of Green and Jeff Rohrer of North Canton had a strong lead after the day session with over 26 pounds, but only managed 2 fish at night bringing their total to 34 pounds 12 ounces and a Third Place finish. They won $133.00

    David Kirkpatrick of Atwater and David Bratanov of Akron brought in a 7-fish total of 21 pounds 6 ounces for Fourth Place.

    Justin Jackson and Denny Ross of Spencer brought in 9 fish weighing totaling 20# 8 oz to finish in Fifth Place.

    James Benson of Chippewa Lake and Mike Benson of Seville took sixth Place with 10 fish weighing 20# 6 oz. Mike also caught his personal best Channel Cat of 8# 10 oz which also took the Okuma Big Cat Award of $133.00 and a 10’ Okuma Fin Chaser Combo.

    Winning the Flathead pot and $325.00 and also setting a new club record for heaviest Flathead was the team of Dustin and Derek Ross of Spencer with a 36# 2 ounce fish.
