I caught a 14.2lb catfish yesterday at springfield and I thought it was
a channel cat but after looking at pics on the net I'm not so sure.
I looked alot more like a blue then a channel. All I have are cell phone
pics and a memory. It was a very dark blue/grey in color, had a big mouth
and was hell to land. My Berkley digital scale said 14.2lb and she was let
    go to live another day.
Can anyone in the know fill me in on what it was I caught?
I'd be glad to send you the pics.
    Thanks in advance.

Very Very Very likely to be a channel cat. As the spawn approaches for channels, males take a bluish hue as well as 'swollen' lips / barbels.

The barbels were very big on this one so I'm thinkin you're right.
I got a few smaller ones on a jerkbait and knew they were channels
  4. That's a nice size cat. Bet it was fun.
  5. That sounds like a very large channel cat. When I have seen blues caught they reel in like you snagged a log or something. It feels like you are pulling in a tree branch. That's great that you releashed it.

It was one of the hardest fights I've had in fresh water and there
was no doubt it was a big fish by the hit on that crankbait.
    Probably the hardest hit ever.
Took a while to get her in the net, noting but fun.:)
