Does any one have a clymer manual or other reference that could tell me what the compression on a 1988 Mariner 100 hp. motor should be?? Any info would be appreciated.

I am pm'ing you a link to a Clymer manual for your motor, but as you can see, it does not give specific numbers for the compression.....Just the "within 15% of each other" as Magis said.

I have owned lots of outboards (have 12 at the present time) and have always found it hard (if not impossible) to get specific numbers on compression.

I guess due to discrepencies in testing equipment, and different motors, exact numbers are not as important as being fairly equal throughout all the cylinders is.

The number Magis gave is a good reference....but I have had motors that run very well with compression numbers down in the 70's.....especially the smaller ones.

For most engines you want 90-150 psi with a 10% tolerance with all the cylinders
