So I am getting into Bass fishing and well getting back into fishing as a whole. Got a boat and rods but needing to gear up with some new tackle. Needless to say the choices are overwhelming. I am looking for a book as well as recommendations on tackle for fishing at West Branch or Berlin to start. If there is any kind of "starter kit" of lures might be useful. I have a modest budget but being somewhat green again I don't want to spend bucks on high dollar tackle since I am sure to lose some. Looking for a decent variety for varying conditions etc. Something to get me going. Thanks for any input.

I'd look to the dt series of crankbaits from rapala..dt4..dt6..dt10..and some rapala shad raps. Some spinnerbaits in both Willow leaf and Colorado blades. For topwatef I'm partial to a black buzzbait and the rebel popr.
And your going to want some bass jigs in 3/8 and 1/2 oz and some trailers..like zoom craw trailers. Oh...and plastic worms and associated tackle to rig them in Texas rig style and Carolina rigs.
Best stop here..I've spent about 300$ of your money..and we're not anywhere close to done..

When I go to a new lake I will go to the local bait shops . I look at what baits they have and talk to the people . I want to see the size, color, depth of the baits run. What they have like worms, jigs, crankbaits, spinner baits . Go to weight ins and talk to the guys .
