A catfish tried to steal my sons new pole today. Check out my diving save and my sons catch.

Very cool!!
(I've got a thousand stories!)Reminds me of the time many years ago, Hot July day 10 miles north of Wildwood(L Erie). Was trolling on a flat day with dipsy divers and Stingers in 62 ft of water for hog-eyes. One of the rods was "casually" stuck only in the holder abt an inch or two. Giant sheepshead hit the lure jerking the big dipsy/level-wind rod over the back! My son instantly ran two steps and "swan dived" over the outboard in one smooth motion grabbing the cork end of the rod before it completely sank! All he had on was cut-offs(I really think he was just waiting for any opportunity to get WET)! Saved approx $200 in equipment which made me extremely grateful.:)

my son had the same thing happen but the pole flew about 10 ft off the dock. we thought there was no way to get it. But I went and got a deep diver put extra weight on the line and casted out. Second cast I felt some weight, and as I reeled I could feel the fish fighting. I had snagged the line. So when it got close to us he grabbed it and started reeling in his catch. It was a 22in Channel catfish. so from that day we usually tie an old stringer or something on to the pole and anchor it somehow.

I went to all baitfeeders for any type of bait fishing. works great on cats. just set the baitfeeder loose enough that it will feed line out instead of losing a rod and reel. I bought mine off ebay. all are off brands from china. I gave around 20.00 each for the ones I got. and they seem to be great reels. I got mine mostly for salmon fishing in mich. but they work great for cats. the ones I got don't show up when I search for baitfeeders, but type in 10 ball bearing baitfeeder spinning reel. I got 5000 size reels but smaller reels should work great for cats, and cost less money.

if you plan on getting some make sure they are baitfeeders. some of the reels say baitfeeder in there listing but are not. make sure what you get has a lever on the rear of the reel to put the baitfeeder on and off. most if not all will kick back in gear when you crank the reel forward.
