I am almost embarrassed to admit it but the 96 Johnson 9.9 on the boat I bought two years ago still has the factory water pump (impeller) on it. It works great and discharges a strong stream of water however I am strong on preventive maintenance and believe I should change it. Could perform the work myself, however right now I am in the process of nearing the end of a contract I signed and cant seem to find the time to. I want to get the work done locally. Any suggestions on a shop near Canton that you trust?
well that fix wont take a couple hours , you should do it your self, if ya have the tools. payin a shop is pricey 80-90 $ hour .. plus parts . when an impeller is about 20 $ ... you can even get a water pump kit on line with all the seals makes it easy. just sayin
Yep. Done it. Just be cognizant of what gear its in when u pull it apart. I pulled the lower unit on my 4stroke 96 Johnzuki a few years ago to change the impeller. When the lower unit came out, it caught the shift lever and pulled it into FWD, I think, from Neutral. Wondered what the heck was what when I went to put it all back together but eventually figured out what had happened. Had to reattach the shift cables in different position cause of it. Mind u it was a remote control motor not a tiller. FYI
steelneyes2 is his name he works on motors on the side. At leas he did a few years ago. He knows Johnson's learned from the guy at bridges. Think he was in Copley
I work on them and could do it for you. I'm in new London but I'm mobile.
