I recently found some public access to Paint Creek and found an awesome spot. It looks way to good to not have fish. There is a deep pool which then leads to a nice little riffle. Below the riffle is fairly nice current and about 3-5 feet of water. I would be happy catching anything, how would you approach the area to find the fish?
Put a night-crawler or lively minnow on a hook with a couple small split shot 12"- 15" above the hook, tight line it to the bottom and hang on.
Good luck and Good fishing !
Oh of course, it's just off of...wait a minute... lol. It is around the Chillicothe area, technically it is public so if anyone wanted to fish it I would share.
IMO nothing beats live bait but a curly- tail will catch most species of fish.
Paint is probably my all time favorite creek for fishing.
Are you fishing above or below the lake ? ?

Plenty of Wbass in late April early May and the smallie fishing is outstanding, plenty of rockbass, K-spots and even some crappie to be found not to mention cats, carp.

It is a beautiful stream, unfortunately ( maybe fortunately) access is pretty limited. That's were I learned how to throw rocks, catch crawdads, climb trees and somehow even a little about fishing.
Lotta good memories fishing there with my father, my dad grew up in that area and seemed to know every inch of the n- frk and the main crk from Greefield to the Sciotio rv.
Gave it another shot this afternoon. Hooked some night crawlers on a jig head with a curl tail and let them drift. Fished for about two hours and got nothing.
Garhtr hit the nail on the head... just use a hook with a nightcrawler or minnow and a few small splitshot weights above it. it is a terrific way to find out whats in there...and a lotta fun!
Another thing to remember... If there is deeper water, even with a few hundred yards up or down stream…or even Half a mile up or downstream..You might be hard-pressed to find fish in the spot you are at during the winter
Minnows aren’t as easy to get, as far as I know the nearest bait shop is Bills Bait House on Lake White otherwise it would be Hirns Corner at Paint Creek.
oh... well.. i guess i was assuming you gad a seine net...they are fairly easy ti find in smaller creeks
