Im taking a fishing trip up to northern Ontario this summer and have decided its finally time to upgrade my Pike set up, Im looking at the St. Croix musky rod, but after that Im not sure what direction to go, I know I want a baitcaster but I've only had shimano's and don't want to limit my search. I'm thinking a max drag atleast 15lbs? and I usually run PowerPro but im wondering if there is a more baitcaster friendly line you guys have found? Thanks!

^Curado is a quality reel but I prefer Lew's bait casters, and this is coming from a guy that runs strictly Shimano spinning reels. As far as Lew's I have everything from the $99 LFS to the Tournament MB on up to the BB1. For a big fish rig I'd start by seeing how the BB1 feels in your hand and maybe check out the Heavy Duty line. For what it's worth Lew's customer service can't be beat.

I'm another one of the Curados guys. I have 5 (?) of the earlier 'green' models & they have been bulletproof for well over 10 years. I only own one of the newer low profile Curados (so far) & it is on a St. Croix Avid. Even though it was an expensive combination I've never once had second thoughts about the cost. It is just flat out an excellent piece of equipment. I have no experience or opinion on the Lews baitcasters but everyone I know that is using them has good things to say. Mike

Thanks guy, I'm going to swing by a cabelas and get a feel for the reels soon, then buy it online (BPS giftcards). Reels are just one of those things I need to "try on" before buying it like a set of work boots.... I figured that combo was the way to go but after looking at all the brands out there now I wasn't sure
