Was looking at Swan Island Dahlias on-line yesterday. It'd be easy to spend a few hundred dollars on their Dahlia varieties, You mentioned you ordered tubers on-line. Have you ever ordered from them.? Definitely have the itch to visit Hirts too in order to see their selections. Continue working on the backyard greenhouse... installing the stained glass panels & shelves. Will post pics when completed.

I believe I ordered from Swan Island Dahlias last year, either that or it was the year before. I think I put the order in late, was kind of a last minute impulse purchase. I believe when I ordered from them they had a lot of their Dahlias on sale, which is why I decided to put in an order. Hirts has their Dahlias online also, so you can check out what they have in the store, online.

Now that I stored away all my Dahlia Tubers for the winter, I got to wondering how do you do so many? How do store yours in a simple, cost effective, less time consuming process? Do you divide your Dahlia Tubers now or wait till Spring?

I make sure mine are pretty dry and throw them in large (1 gallon or 2 gallon) ziplock bags, then cover with peat moss, label the bag and store them away in boxes. My basement is pretty dry and warmer so this is why I store them in ziplock bags. If I didn't they would dry up too much over the winter.

I check on my tubers every few weeks or so, if I see any sign of mold I open the bag for a week to let it dry out some more. I wait till spring to divide mine, the eyes are more visible then, which makes them easier to divide.
